Are you looking for a 2010 Ford Escape?

Q: What is the optimum cruising speed in terms of mpg for my ford escape?
I want to figure out at what speed I will get the maximum mpg in my ford escape. If you don’t know what it is, is there a way to figure it out?

A: about 50 mph, but you can cause traffic jams at that speed :(

Q: What is the best and cheapest way to add freon to your 2003 Ford Escape?
I have a 2003 Ford Escape XLT. Recently, the air conditioning has started taking a little longer to cool down the car. The air flow just doesn’t seem as cold as it usually does. After driving for a short while, the air finally gets cold. Does this mean that the vehicle needs more freon? The air conditioner has never been serviced, so is this a possibility? How much does it cost? Where is the best and cheapest place to have this done? Thanks!

The extended warranty on the vehicle has already expired since the vehicle has over 70K+ miles.

A: You probably do not have a problem. Remember it is summer and a car that has been sitting in the sun all day absorbs a ton of heat.

Ambient (air temperature) will play a critical role in how long your Escape will take to cool down the interior. I recommend that after you drive a while and the car starts to cool off on a real hot and humid day, insert a thermometer (a/c thermometer from auto parts store)in the center dash vents and the temp should be in the 40’s with blower on medium.

On a cooler less humid day the truck will cool down faster. Until the truck cools down, do not run the a/c on max, this is a recirculate mode that re-cools the already cool air in your vehicle

If this is not the case, when the a/c is on, verify that the compressor is turning all the time and the electric fan is on. If the compressor cycles on and off you probably have a leak and need to get the truck serviced by a reputable facility or your local Ford dealer

Q: Should I buy the 2008 Ford Escape or wait for the 2009 Escape?
Currently Ford is offering $2500 rebate on 2008 Ford Escape. I am waiting for the 2009 Escape that is expected to hit showrooms later this summer. Do you think Ford will still be offering that kind of rebate on the 2009. Or are they just offering that kind of rebate on the 2008 because they need to make room for the 2009’s?

A: If you can afford the 2009, I would wait for it. Ford did the redesign of the Escape gradually. For 2008, the restyled body appeared, but on essentially the same chassis as the previous design. For 2009, the Escape gets an updated chassis to complete the redesign. It should be a significantly better vehicle.

Q: How can I make my 2001 Ford Escape look awesome?
Okay so I have a 2001 Ford Escape, and I want it to look really sweet, inside and out. What should I add to it? Like accessories, body work, ect. I’m really into horses, if that helps, haha. I want to get stuff for the inside thats like horse themed, but I cant find much, anybody have any good websites? Thanx!

A: You could try horse themed floormats, seat covers, and steering wheel cover. If you could find items like this for Mustangs, but that just have the horses, not the Mustang logo, it would work ok. You may also look for window tint that is for Mustangs. You could trim off the Mustang logo, and just have the horses on the back glass. You could also get a themed front license plate, if your state doesn’t require a front tag. Lots of places sell those. My wife’s 01 Escape AWD has a hummingbird themed front tag. I would leave the outside pretty much alone, except for the front tag. It already looks good as it is! Just a few ideas, and good luck!

Q: How often should I change the battery filter in a Ford Escape Hybrid?
I’m not referring to the regular engine air filter, but the filter that works with the Ford Escape Hybrid’s long life batteries.
Thank you.
Your input doesn’t make sense, Legendary.

A: If I remember correctly, it needs to be changed every 15K. Not 100% positive. It’s really easy to check yourself so just keep an eye on it. If it looks dirty, have it replaced.

Q: What is the red LED in the 2010 Ford Escape steering column for?
I just got a 2010 Ford escape and there is a little LED near the hazard switch in the steering column that keeps blinking red but I can’t find anywhere in the manual what it indicates. My friend has an identical Escape but his does not blink. Anyone knows?

A: It’s the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) indicater light. See page 107-8-9 of your owners manual.

Anti-theft indicator
The anti-theft indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster.
• When the ignition is in the off
position, the indicator will flash
once every two seconds to
indicate the SecuriLock system
is functioning as a theft
deterrent.
• When the ignition is in the on position, the indicator will glow for
three seconds to indicate normal system functionality.
If a problem occurs with the SecuriLock system, the indicator will flash
rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition is in the on position. If this
occurs, turn the ignition off then back to on to make sure there was no
electronic interference with the programmed key. If the vehicle doesn’t
start, try to start it with the 2nd programmed key and if successful
contact your authorized dealership for key replacement. If the indicator
still flashes rapidly or glows steadily, the vehicle will not start, contact
your authorized dealer as soon as possible for service.
Automatic arming
The vehicle is armed immediately after switching the ignition to the off
position.
The theft indicator will flash every
two seconds to act as a theft
deterrent when the vehicle is
armed.
Automatic disarming
The vehicle is disarmed immediately after the ignition is turned to the on
position.
The theft indicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out. If
the theft indicator stays on for an extended period of time or flashes
rapidly, contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
Replacement Integrated Keyhead Transmitters (IKT) and coded
keys
Note: Your vehicle comes equipped with two Integrated Keyhead
Transmitters (IKTs). The IKT functions as both a programmed ignition
key that operates all the locks and starts the vehicle, as well as a remote

Q: How do you change the fuel filter in a 2003 Ford Escape V6?
I need to change the fuel filter in my Ford Escape. Any ideas how difficult this may be? Other than the fuel filter, what parts or tools do I need? How long will it take–an hour, an afternoon?

A: some of those cars has those quick connects on the filters. go to auto zone and rent the tool to take it off. with the right tool you should be back on the road within, i,ll say any where from half hour to 45 minutes.

Q: What cars are similar to the Ford Escape?
I am looking for a two row mid size SUV car that is black with black interior. Apparently, there are no Ford Escapes that met those specifications. I am not looking for specific listing on cars just list me types of cars that are similar to the Ford Escape or the Nissan Xterra. Thanks.

A: The Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute are built on the exact same chassis as the Escape.

Other small SUVs similar in concept to the Escape: Honda CR-V, Jeep Liberty, Saturn Vue, BMW X3, Kia Sorrento, etc.

Q: How do you fix a broken door handle on a 2000 Ford Escape?
The outside handle of my 2000 Ford Escape will not open the door. I can open it from inside the car. How do you remove the panel to fix it and what might the problem be?

A: Obviously the problem is the loose nut grabbing the handle from the outside!
NO….the problem is that the handle has a small ear broke off on the inside of the door. the rod that moves the door latch hooks into this ear and they wear out over time. to fix it you have to take all the screws out of the door pannel then pop the clips out of thier lock slots in the door itself. then you reach inside the door where you can’t see ………undo two nuts that hold the handle on then remove it from the outside.

Q: How to replace the gray trim moldings on my Ford Escape w/ black?
I have a 2001 Ford Escape, which comes with your general factory stock gray trim moldings (ugh). But I’m going to put a black brush guard on mine, and would rather there be black trim than the gray. Where can I buy the ENTIRE set for my Escape?
And please don’t recommend painting. Past experience says that plastic paint isn’t the most efficient. Thanks.

A: try LMC.com

Q: How to remove Water from underneath a 2005 Ford Escape Car Carpet?
Im driving a 2005 Ford Escape and i left my car door ajar and LOTS of rain water got in. I sucked most of it up with a Wet Vac so now the carpets dry to the touch but there’s still water underneath it. So how would i get rid of the water trapped underneath it???????

A: Remove the carpet and vacuum up the rest
Keep the fan on high and blowing on the floor and it will speed up evaporation.
You obviously live where its warmer.
It will evaporate fairly quickly by itself
Put a small household fan in there overnight to also speed evaporation

Q: is it possible to get a remote start installed on a 2010 ford escape?
i’m broke so we bought the basic 2010 ford escape. it doesn’t come with a remote start on it, but i wanted to get one installed. about how much would it cost? and is it even possible?

A: As long as it’s automatic.
You can’t install a remote start on a manual car because the neutral safety switch is the clutch, which has to be pressed down for the car to start. In automatics, its just having it in “P” for Park.

I think Advance Auto has a Do It Yourself, or Install It Yourself rather, but its like $400. I’m unsure of the average costs but it cant be too cheap.

Q: How to make a 2008 Ford Escape look cool?
I have a silver 2008 ford escape, chrome grille on front. I already have 5% tints on all windows but the front windshield. What else should I do or get?

A: Well what kind of cool do you like? If you like the “Truck” look, then get a bush bar on the front with some BIG PIAA lights on it.
If you like the “PIMP” look, then you can get some new rims, or start looking into getting a lowering kit or puttin it on bags.

Q: Can the average person fix a problem on the latest years of the Ford Escape?
I’m thinking of buying a 2007 or 2008 model Ford Escape. Can the average person change the water pump, thermostat, alternator, starter, or brakes on these newer cars? I’ve fixed these things myself on my 1998 Rodeo and want to be able to do the same with the Ford Escape.

A: If you have been able to handle the problems with a 98 Rodeo, then you might be able to resolve the problems that you will face with a newer vehicle. The major difference will be in recovering codes that will set due to sensor malfunctions. Then being able to interpret the code to perform the repair. Diagnostics’s is a field that requires more knowledge than the average person possesses. I’ve been at it for over forty years and get stumped every once in a while. I feel for the person that tries to understand to days cars with all of the new technology. Good Luck

Q: What do you think of the Ford escape hyrbids looks?
What do you think of the Ford escape hyrids looks?
in your opinion, what do you think of the ford escape hybrids apperance? if any, Favorite color? If you’ve seen it, what do you think of the interiors appearance?

A: When they restyled the Escape in 2008, the Hybrid also went thru some major changes. They are such a great vehicle, it is difficult to get one and orders take 6 months to get. The Hybrid is only good for you if you are doing a minimum of 80% city driving. The interior is very user friendly and I really like the display on top of the dash that has your outside temp, compass and radio features. Make sure you order SYNC with it, you’ll love it. As for color, believe it or not white looks great on it, as does the Black Pearl.
